Companion Care

What Is Companion Care?

Companion Care is a non-medical, hands-on service focused on providing emotional support, socialization, and assistance with daily tasks to help seniors and others live safely and happily in the comfort of their home. It is designed to combat loneliness and social isolation—factors that significantly impact an individual's mental and physical health.

Our compassionate caregivers become a trusted friend, offering a positive, engaging presence while assisting with the everyday activities that have become challenging due to age, illness, or recovery. This essential service allows families to breathe easier, knowing their loved one is never truly alone.

Those that benefit from companion care services

Companion Care is ideal for any individual who:

  • Lives alone and would benefit from a friendly, consistent presence.
  • Recently lost a spouse or partner and is navigating grief and loneliness.
  • Has limited mobility or no longer drives, leading to difficulty running errands or attending appointments.
  • Is recovering from a hospital stay or injury and needs temporary support to rebuild strength and confidence.
  • Exhibits signs of isolation, depression, or a loss of interest in hobbies or activities they once enjoyed.

Our in-home companion care services

Our Companion Care services are tailored to each client’s unique routine and personality, promoting independence while fostering a meaningful connection.

  • Companionship and Engagement: Engaging in hobbies, puzzles, reading, stimulating conversations, and simply offering a listening ear.
  • Activity and Transportation: Providing transportation to appointments, social events, or the senior center, and accompanying clients on walks or outings.
  • Household Help: Assisting with light housekeeping (laundry, tidying up, organizing), running errands, and grocery shopping.
  • Meal Planning and Preparation: Cooking nutritious and enjoyable meals tailored to dietary needs, ensuring regular, healthy eating.
  • Safety and Monitoring: Offering medication reminders (ensuring medications are taken on time) and supervising the client to prevent falls or accidents.

Understanding activites of daily living (ADLs)

While the primary focus of Private Duty Nursing is skilled medical care, our RNs and LPNs seamlessly integrate essential personal assistance to ensure holistic care. They are trained to assist with all Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs), combining medical oversight with compassionate human care.

While many of the services listed above are considered Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs)—tasks related to independent functioning, like housekeeping and managing finances—our caregivers can also assist with core ADLs:

  • Ambulating: Moving from one place to another (walking, using a cane/walker).
  • Transferring: Moving between surfaces (bed, chair, wheelchair).
  • Toileting and Incontinence Care.
  • Dressing and Grooming.
  • Bathing.
  • Feeding.

Our goal is to assist with these tasks with the utmost respect and dignity, helping your loved one maintain their personal routine and self-esteem.
